Pronounced Foong Shway or Fung Shoy, this specific art of creating balance and harmony in and around the home, has been used by the ancient Chinese for nearly 6000 years to assist in anything from locating auspicious site for burying the dead, to locating beneficial sites for the living.
The ancient Chinese understood the entire universe is made up of Qi [chi] or energy, which once understanding the cycles of Qi, one can master the influence of the five elements and bring happiness, prosperity and good health. As one arm of traditional Chinese medicine, Feng Shui creates balance through harmonising the five elements present in the universe : Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood.
Essentially, Feng Shui is made up of three schools, which all contribute to a complete analysis and interpretation of a site. They are :
:: Form school
:: Compass school
:: Flying Star school
Form School is based on the analysis of the land, which includes its shape, contours, and proximity to water. It was originally used to locate auspicious sites to build entire cities.
Compass School revolves around the facing direction of the building, and is a simplified version of Feng Shui. All of the eight cardinal directions of a compass have their own energetic qualities and its where these sectors of the cardinal directions fall that determine the energetic blue print of your home.
Flying Star School is the most complex and comprehensive of the Schools. Flying Star School is based purely on mathematics, the language of the universe and combines the knowledge and analysis of the Form and Compass schools brought together to complete a detailed analysis of a site.
The integration of these three schools is used for a Feng Shui consultation and audit.
It is very important to remember Feng Shui is not magic. It is truly about balancing and harmonising the elements and energies that are present in this universe to maximise one’s experience positively, here on earth.
